I could live forever Eating ice cream in the sun The whole town is talking about her It’s on the lips of everyone That I meet But she’s with me So they understand Why I’ve been thinking God’s country is wherever I am Unbelievable plenty Some folks just got it all But me and my baby We’re like honey on a spoon Along came June Like a flower in my hand So I’ve been thinking God’s country is wherever I am If we can’t conceive of Heaven Then what can we conceive She’s been talking about something That will make it all worth while So I’ll tie my shoes What do I have to lose I never made a plan And I’ve been thinking God’s country is wherever I am I’ve been thinking God’s country is wherever I am

Honey On Her 03:20
They said it was a sin How she’d rub a crooked ear on everything And that she seemed so sly She said I know you are but what am I Like they’d ever learn That she’s not tired anymore She’s not tired anymore No she’s not tired anymore Not like she was before And she said sometimes you go about In such great pity for yourself and though it should have stung She spoke as if with honey on her tongue Like I’d ever learn That she’s not tired anymore She’s not tired anymore No she’s not tired anymore Not like she was before

A man of easy virtue And a proven liar He was born in fire And he died on the road His nights were cold And the devil don’t make it easy Don’t I know It’s true But neither does a girl like you On the day that he died He danced on nothing Just remembering How he’d left you unkissed With a clenched fist He said the devil don’t make it easy And don’t I know that it’s true But neither does a girl like you He was a man of letters And then there were floods So now we’re not sure What he was truly a man of

I grew up in the country I ate a lot of strangers I moved away I moved away That seemed alright To start a rock n roll band I mostly waited tables I met you there You looked fine And you smelled strange Then I wrote ten hundred songs And asked people for their allergies I tried to die I didn’t succeed At anything But I hung around with line cooks Who died from overdoses Now they’re in hell They never had That many options I made some bad decisions I seen a lot of women They’re better off I’m better off I can’t hear them crying Then I lost my arm and went to jail I wrote a book that no one likes It’ll catch on In two hundred years That’s what I think Til then I’ll just say ohh ohh ohh ohh ohh ohh ohh ohh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhhhhhhhhhh But I can put my arm back on And i know that you can’t So I’m going out the country I’m going home And I’ll live here forever They’ll name the main street after me My family name Whatever that Will be And I’ll meet all the neighbours I’ll have them round for dinner When they’re not scared Of my philosophy They can teach me carpentry So I can build a hutch out on my lawn For my daughter to get married on Unless I don’t care For who she’s marrying You know great grandma had four hundred kids I’ve got more cousins than anyone They’re all insane I don’t call them They’re not invited To the wedding Of my daughter They all say ohh ohh ohh ohh ohh ohh ohh ohh ohhh ohh ohh ohhhhh ohhhhhhhh I take pictures of the ocean I walk like Charlie Chaplin I’m just as smart As him And I’m taller The air here smells sweet There’s still magic in things Apples fall Onto people’s lawns And then get rotten

I was at a party once I was thinking about the future then I said I liked movies about losers Who make peace with themselves But there was no losers there Losers don’t live in this town Back then I didn’t live in simple dreams I was thinking about my enemies Fighting over my costume Fighting over my soul And not a soul was there They had nothing behind their eyes I thought Maybe if we Were born in America Things would have been different for us then But we are bruised apples baby Two cracked eggs And all we had was College Street Time to make some peace with that Cause I don’t hear you singing there Anymore But it could always be worse That’s what people say They say it could always be worse I was at the movies once I was trying to relax I bet your children they love you back No matter what you do I don’t like children around me Kicking my seat I want to live in simple dreams I want to live in foolish jokes This is not prestige tv This hell was not just made by me And it’s expensive everywhere Where an I supposed to move I thought Maybe if we Were born in America Things would have been different for us then But we are bruised apples baby Two cracked eggs And all we had was College Street Time to make some peace with that Cause I don’t hear you singing there Anymore But it could always be worse We could be dead That’s worse I guess

Come Slowly 02:58
Seems like these days More to think and less to say Maybe I’m just getting dumb Can’t remember where I’m from But I’m not going back I’m not going back And good things Come slowly To me Good things sure come slowly To me Yes indeed I’ll keep heading west From your feet down to your breast Cause I’m not going back I’m not going back And good things Come slowly To me Good things sure come slowly To me Yes Indeed

Did you hear about the new spot by the celebrity chef His last one collapsed and crushed twenty people to death But he’s got a new one I heard they serve mulled wine I used to work for him and his first born child She would stand in the in the kitchen on her phone And make the soup too mild She broke glass In all the butter scones And then blamed me I tried to tell him that He said he had a degree in philosophy And then he told me he used to play in a band It wasn’t helpful It wasn’t relevant at all I started thinking then maybe he was a stupid man He had a necktie on shaped just like a razor clam He used to cook for the troops He used to cook for the basketball team He told me twenty years ago no one cared about food in this town I said incidentally twenty years ago you could afford a place To settle down Cocktails cost Twenty Two dollars Ooof He told me to use the expensive salt And he told me not to mention the allegations at all He’s got a book deal It’s about sliced bread A long time ago I was down in Vimy Ridge I was trying to take some nice pictures to take home and put on my fridge I was thinking at the time How so many people died For nothing But maybe that’s just my modern sensibility Maybe I don’t understand exactly what they did that makes me free After all I am only in the background of several pictures of a celebrity chef Can you say that

Sober Song 02:35
So I got older Than I thought I’d be That’s good for me But now it’s time to make amends For everything I ever said Or ever did I’ve been a bad kid Sang an angry song Feeding rich folks kin Who got everything Except real love And real pain And real skin But I’ll make amends Even to them I’m sorry that I wished you were dead Now I can see How that was unkind I could be so mean So I hope that you will still hire me But I’m free today That’s what I hear I’m gonna get me a job As a spinning wheel In a vacuum I’ll take mushrooms And when I’m just not happy enough I hear they got all kinds of drugs

Love is defiant That’s why we continue to try it And you know it when you see it So you be thankful for it Cause sometimes you feel the only one who knows But that will make you laugh enough And I saw it coming But I did nothing I call em like I see em I don’t see no calling Sometimes I feel the only one who knows I’ll bet it makes you laugh enough Though it don’t make sense It don’t make sense It don’t make sense But it’ll make you laugh Enough It’ll make you laugh Enough It’ll make you laugh
